Food & Homeless Ministries

Giving out of Abundance!

Food and homeless ministries address a wide range of needs in the Grand Valley through partnerships with local agencies and churches that provide food and shelter to individuals and families in need. Opportunities to serve include volunteering and donating to the Food Bank, Catholic Outreach, Kids Aid, Child and Migrant Services, and local homeless shelters. At The Christ Center, we serve children who are hungry not only for home-cooked meals but also for the fellowship of believers. Many hands make light work, and the shared fellowship makes it fun!

Christ exhorts us to invite those who cannot repay us to the banquet we have prepared. Food ministry is a way of doing that - whether serving the homeless and hungry or simply providing for college students in need of fellowship and a free meal. The goal is to serve and provide in abundance.

Some Examples of ways to get involved

Simple Involvement- Huge Impact

Donating food is a simple way to remember Christ’s command to feed the hungry! Each week we collect food items for the Community Food Bank. Share from the abundance of your home pantry or buy extra items as you walk through the grocery aisles. Place your donations in the red wagon. Watch for seasonal themes that are promoted during Super “SOUPer” Bowl, holiday drives or times of specific requests.

More In-Depth Involvement

You can make a tangible difference in our community through hands-on service:

  • Food Bank Donations: Pick up and deliver donations to the Food Bank.
  • Shelter Meals: Plan menus and organize teams to prepare and serve monthly meals at local shelters.
  • Community Suppers: Serve a Sunday-night supper at Christ Center or a lunch at the Catholic Outreach Soup Kitchen.
  • Special Events: Participate in events like Empty Bowls or the Thanksgiving gift baskets at CMS—either as a coordinator or team member.

Financial support also makes an impact. By giving to MPC through tithes and offerings, a portion of your gifts goes to the mission budget, supporting:

  • Grand Valley Catholic Outreach
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Homeward Bound of the Grand Valley
  • Community Food Bank
  • Food Bank of the Rockies

Additionally, our promotion of One Great Hour of Sharing, the denomination’s Lenten/Easter offering, supports the Presbyterian Hunger Program, which addresses food insecurity around the world.

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
