We love children at Monument Presbyterian Church. They add
laughter, energy, and insight. We want church to be a positive experience
for them-every time they walk through our doors. We are building a safe community of
caring, kindness, acceptance, empathy, and identity.
We believe sharing in worship with the entire MPC family is
important and it also becomes a part of a child's Christian education. Every Sunday
morning, Pastor Jeff shares "Time with the Children" early in the worship service,
in which children are invited forward for a simple understanding of the morning's sermon
topic. Then children preschool through 5th grade are invited to the G.R.A.C.E. Place, where Christian education sessions are offered in a workshop rotational model. Children rotate over several weeks in workshops featuring cooking, art, science, storytelling, games, music and video. Through fall of 2008, the theme is “How the Bible Came To Be.” The Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons will be celebrated through December 14, 2008 in similar rotational workshops.
Following worship and the G.R.A.C.E. Place at 10:30 a.m., middle school, high school and adults are invited to attend Christian education classes. A more casual approach is provided for the younger children during this time, entitled “The Gathering.” From Sunday to Sunday a variety of games, crafts or other activities will be provided by volunteers from the church.
Throughout our Christian education endeavors for children and youth, our intent is to emphasize these goals:
- Biblical study from Old and New Testaments
- individual and group prayer
- memorization of the Lord's Prayer and Ten Commandments
- understanding of theological vocabulary and church beliefs
- real life application of Christianity
- outreach as a daily lifestyle
We are always grateful for new learners!
