Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers Are Care-Givers, God Is the Cure-Giver
The role of Stephen Ministers is to give care. They use their extensive training to listen, empathize, encourage, pray, and provide emotional and spiritual support on a weekly basis to hurting people for as long as the need persists. God works in and through them to bring hope and healing. If you are feeling lonely, experiencing a crisis, struggling through a difficult time, or simply find yourself stressed by everyday life, talk with one of our Stephen Leaders - Lisa Jacobson or Pastor Jeff Harmeling to learn more about Stephen Ministry. You may reach them by calling the church office at 255-6549. Our Stephen Ministers are ready to care for you!

Stephen Ministry is Worldwide If you are aware of a need outside of our community, care may be available to address that need, as well. Contact a Stephen Leader at our church to begin the process of finding Stephen Ministry in another area.

How to Refer Someone for Stephen Ministry Care
If you know someone who might benefit from a weekly visit with a Stephen Minister, you could be instrumental in bringing about this support. Talk with the individual about the healing effect of sharing concerns with a non-judgmental listener who is dedicated to helping that person process their life event. Cards and brochures are available in the "Care Corner" of the foyer to assist in explaining the Stephen Ministry program. If you receive the person's permission, you can have a Stephen Leader contact them to answer any questions or to arrange care. If the individual refuses your suggestion for care, wait a while and approach them again. Many people find it difficult to accept assistance, or they may be so overwhelmed with their situation that they need more time to consider the offer.

CareNotes are also a good way to begin addressing a need. CareNotes are short pamphlets that cover specific life challenges and include lists of books on the topics. The CareNotes are located in the in the "Care Corner" by the stained glass Stephen Ministry logo in the foyer of the church.
